A truly great performance, the greatest of all time of this work. Toscanini gives it an epic interpretation because it is an epic work. Don't be scared by the tempo or the premise that it does'nt "sound" Schubert. The fact that he was 86 when he conducted this is amazing in itself. I've just heard the lp recording. On cd it probably sounds even better.
