Dispatches from Echo Magic is a bonus disc that accompanied the green vinyl release of Goes West, a eight song assemblage of which includes early versions of five of the songs from the album, plus an addition three collected from other album recording sessions.

Tyler’s music is wide open and expansive, entirely instrumental, traveling along the same path as Steve Gunn, creating a visionary pastoral landscape that’s laid back and contemplative, delightful for rolling down a desert highway or warming yourself from an impending storm, in an entirely proactive manner. Most of Tyler’s music has been seriously and consciously constructed, yet with artists such as electric jazz guitarist Bill Frisell playing next to him, those sounds drift off, becoming free and emancipated, coming across as sightly abstract in a dreamy modern country manner.

Without thinking twice Goes West instantly brings to mind an endless number of influences and comparisons, everyone from the pedal steel brilliance of Chuck Johnson, to the never ending likeness to John Fahey and even Nick Drake, yet Tyler has managed to be influenced by these artists without sounding derivative or beholding, capturing new aspects of these significantly great musicians and making them his own.
